Anxiety is a normal and common reaction to stressful situations in one's daily life. In some cases however, anxiety becomes extreme, causing those affected to dread everyday situations. Anxiety happens so often with depression that these conditions are thought to be two faces of one mental disorder. Like depression, anxiety affects twice as many women as it does men. The exaggerated worry & expecting negative outcomes in situations that are unknown that are typical of anxiety can also be accompanied by physical symptoms including headaches, muscle tension, frequent urination and/or stomach cramps. Behavioral therapy and/or medication can be used to control symptoms and have been proven highly effective.
